New Castle-area man who faked 'bingo' returns $400 jackpot
NEW CASTLE, Pa. (AP) -- Police said a New Castle-area man has returned a $400 jackpot after falsely claiming to have a "bingo" at a church fundraiser.
Police the man was playing at Mary Mother of Hope parish hall on Wednesday when he lied about the jackpot, according to the New Castle News.
The man, whose name hasn't been released, claimed to have a bingo, so a worker paid him the jackpot before checking his card and realizing he had not won.
The woman called police because the man left with the money. Police arrived at his home a short time later and told the man they'd file a theft charge against him if he didn't give back the money. Police aren't identifying the man because he gave back the money.
